Nio Far By Milcos
Nio Far is a Senegalese wearable art brand founded by designer, artist and software engineer El Hadji Malick Badji, known as Milcos.
Based in Senegal and rooted in the cultural landscape of West Africa, Nio Far explores the intersection of art, design, fashion, technology and cultural research. The brand uses wearable objects as a way to tell stories, question identities and create new connections between ancestral knowledge and contemporary life.
The name Nio Far, meaning “we are together” in Wolof, reflects the philosophy at the heart of the project: creation as a collective space where cultures, generations, disciplines and people meet.
RESEARCH BEFORE COLLECTIONS
At Nio Far, a collection does not begin with a trend or a seasonal calendar. It begins with a question.
Milcos develops each project through an extensive research process inspired by African histories, cosmologies, rituals, symbols, materials and oral traditions. This research can take several years before becoming a collection.
From Po Tolo, inspired by Dogon cosmology and the mysterious relationship between Sirius and the Dogon understanding of the universe, to Adiola, which explores Diola cosmology, identity and cultural memory, each project becomes an opportunity to investigate a particular cultural narrative and translate it into a contemporary visual and material language.
We release a collection only when there is something to say.
FROM CULTURAL RESEARCH TO WEARABLE OBJECTS
Nio Far transforms research into tangible forms.
Sneakers, garments, sculptures, installations and other objects become vehicles for storytelling. Traditional references are not simply reproduced; they are reinterpreted, reconstructed and placed in dialogue with contemporary design.
The brand works with materials that carry their own stories, including bogolan textiles, natural fibers and upcycled leather, while exploring new combinations of craft, technology and experimentation.
Every piece is part of a broader narrative.
MADE IN SENEGAL
Production is an essential part of Nio Far's identity.
The brand develops its pieces in Senegal, working with local artisans, craftspeople and creative communities. This approach allows Nio Far to place local knowledge and craftsmanship at the center of contemporary creation while contributing to a more sustainable and locally rooted creative economy.
Rather than separating design from production, Nio Far sees making as part of the creative process itself.
The imperfections, gestures, textures and traces of craftsmanship are not defects to be hidden. They are part of the identity of each piece.
BETWEEN ANCESTRAL KNOWLEDGE AND THE FUTURE
Nio Far does not see tradition and technology as opposites.
The brand experiments with AR, VR, interactive installations, gaming, digital storytelling and immersive experiences to create new ways of engaging with African cultural narratives.
These technologies are used not simply as aesthetic additions, but as tools for research, interpretation and transmission.
The ambition is to imagine a future where African stories can be experienced through new forms without losing the depth and complexity of their origins.
MORE THAN A FASHION BRAND
Nio Far exists across several creative territories.
It operates as a wearable art brand, a research platform and a space for cultural experimentation. Its work extends beyond clothing and accessories into exhibitions, immersive installations, collaborations, audiovisual projects and cultural experiences.
Each collection can therefore become the starting point for a wider ecosystem of stories, objects and experiences.
At its core, Nio Far is interested in one fundamental question:
How can contemporary design become a language through which African cultures can speak about themselves, on their own terms, while imagining what comes next?
Nio Far is an ongoing exploration of that question.
